Beginning with one employee, The Mill Pond Press Companies have grown to more than 50 Employee/Shareholders. A company first headquartered in two rooms, The Mill Pond Press Companies have expanded into two-stories with 42,000 square feet, plus additional facilities off-site. Maintaining a tradition of quality and integrity, The Mill Pond Press Companies continue to grow and diversify.

Founded in 1973, Mill Pond Press, Inc., changed ownership in 1998 when its founders, the Lewin family, established an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to reward their loyal staff, many of whom had been with the company from its inception. As a result, Mill Pond Press, Inc., changed from a family-owned company to one whose ownership is held by its family of employees, along with longtime associate of the Lewin family, businessman Richard J. Mitchell, who acquired the remaining interest. Under his direction and guidance, Mill Pond Press, Inc., became the dynamic Mill Pond Press Companies in a highly successful transition that added new divisions and developed new products lines to enhance diversity and meet the growing needs of an ever-changing art market.

With an established legacy, a continuing commitment to quality and an incredible array of art, we are emboldened by the unlimited possibilities the future presents. The Mill Pond Press Companies share a renewed commitment to exceed the high standards for which we are known as we continue to create and provide new and innovative ways for people to own and enjoy beautiful art in the 21st Century.

What makes a limited edition art print special?

A limited edition print is a reproduction of an original work of art. While there can be only one original, limited editions make it possible for an artist to share his work with a larger audience. The total number of reproductions is limited to an edition size set by the publisher. Each reproduction in the edition has the approval of the artist, as evidenced by his signature and each is individually numbered. Because there are a finite number of pieces personalized by the artist, limited editions are, by their very nature, desirable, collectible and exclusive. Each limited edition from The Mill Pond Press Companies comes with its own Certificate of Authenticity, the collector's assurance that the limited edition is genuine.

Known by the "company" we keep

"I have been delighted by my association with Mill Pond Press since the 1970s. Next to the real thing, the prints that we have produced together through the years are the best possible reproductions of my work." – Robert Bateman, internationally celebrated artist and naturalist whose work has been the subject of five best-selling books

There’s no substitute for experience

The average Employee/Shareholder of The Mill Pond Press Companies has 14 years' on-the-job experience. They have seen Mill Pond grow from a vision, housed in a two-room office, to the multi-faceted companies that we have become. The founding principles were quality and integrity, and while there have been many changes over the years, those values have remained intact.

Working on our images

Mill Pond’s success has always been all about relationships: our relationships with our artists, with our suppliers and with our customers. Our quality control specialists consider themselves facilitators; the link between the artists and our printers, carrying the artists’ critiques and concerns to the printing technicians, who work closely with us on every edition. Together we create an image on the printing press. Our pledge to our customer is that this bond between the artist, the publisher and the printer will result in art that he can be proud to own.

Picture perfect

After sorting more than one million prints over the years, each new print remains a challenge to our Curator, who inspects every print, searching for any imperfections. The Curator will reject any print containing a flaw, no matter how minute; even those not detectable by the untrained eye. A print that does not meet our exceptional quality standards will never reach the customer. It will be destroyed, and the paper on which it was printed will be recycled.

Distinctive down to the last detail

We not only publish and provide beautiful art, we create award-winning promotional materials for our art galleries and our artists. Quality is evident in our attention to every detail of operations at The Mill Pond Press Companies, beginning with the moment your call is courteously answered to the way each product is presented. Each product from The Mill Pond Press Companies is carefully planned, crafted, processed, packaged and shipped by our Employee/Shareholders. Each of us feels privileged to provide the work of our talented artists to people who appreciate beautiful art.
